Properties of Peridot

Peridot: From Meteors to Volcanos a Crystal for Prosperity, Protection, Love

For some reason I have never been a big fan of Peridot. At least, not until a customer came in and said, “These were all over my friend’s backyard in Hawaii after the volcano!” That stopped me in my tracks, as I grabbed a flashlight to look at the sparkling green gems imbedded in the basalt.

And sure enough here’s a story from Forbes about Olivine (Peridot).

Peridot forms in the upper mantle of the Earth in the magma, and the crystals are thrust to the surface by volcanic or tectonic activity, while most gems are formed in Earth’s crust.

Another fun fact about Peridot is that it has been found in meteorites! Yup - from deep within Earth’s grasp to being found in the Pallasite Meteorite. They were first discovered in 1749 by German naturalist Peter Pallas. About 50 years ago, a massive meteor was found in Argentina, and it contained a large number of Peridot. Researchers from the GIA examined the space Peridot and compare it with Earth’s Peridot and discovered a few significant differences in the two gems. To read more about it check out this link.

Now that I piqued your interest about Peridot, here are some of its metaphysical properties.

Margaret Ann Lembo in her book, “The Essential Guide to Crystals, Minerals and Stones,” states Peridot is transformational and helps people rise above addictions. It is beneficial if you are going through a rite of passage since it helps with inner strength to overcome any challenges you may face. Peridot can help to transform negative emotions, such as jealousy, anger, self-sabotage. Lembo also suggests to use the green stone to support the digestive system – gallbladder, liver, pancreas and spleen.

Author Judy Hall likes Peridot for abundance and prosperity. Use Peridot with help in budgeting as it stabilizes finances, she states in her book, “Crystal Prosperity.” Peridot assists in releasing negative beliefs that underlie poverty consciousness. Hall also notes Peridot was used as a protective stone in ancient times.

Robert Simmons in “The Book of Stones,” writes Peridot was viewed as a symbol of the sun in ancient times. “Their vibration brings an inner sense of warmth and well-being, like sunshine on a spring day.”

Peridot is also known to stimulate the Heart Chakra. “Peridots help one to activate and harmonize the third and fourth chakras, creating an integration of Love and Will,” Simmons notes.

Co-author Naisha Ahsian likes Peridot for its power to generate increase, expanding one’s ability to receive. Ahh, she states Peridot is great for Earth healers as it attunes to the “subtle realms of Nature.” It’s useful in connecting with plants, animals and the fairy world. She also likes Peridot for its ability to lift a heavy heart.

Along with revealing Peridot helps with transforming negative patterns and for its power in the pursuit of love, Melody in “Love is In The Earth,” writes that one should remove Peridot when aligning and cleansing the chakras because of its protective shield around your body. And once you are aligned, wearing Peridot will “prevent outside influences from affecting the aligned, balance, cleansed structure.”

Physically, Melody states Peridot is an excellent healing stone, “acting as a tonic to both strengthen and regenerate the body.” And that Peridot has been used as a “facilitator in the birthing process, stimulating contractions and facilitating the opening of the birth canal.”

And with that note, let’s end with the affirmation from Ahsian: I gratefully receive my birthright of success, abundance and prosperity on all levels.
