Starter crystals Part 1
by Eliza Sommers
As more people become aware of the energy of crystals, we are seeing more clients who are interested in the metaphysical properties of crystals but don’t know where to start.
To help you, we at For Heaven’s Sake are putting together Starter Kits for Crystal Lovers.
Here are four crystals/minerals to start your collection.
Selenite: Selenite recharges other crystals. You can experience this phenomenon by slowly putting two pieces together (it helps if you close your eyes). As the Selenite gets closer, they feel like a magnet repelling one another. It’s, oh, so slight, and the more you play with Selenite, the stronger the energy. It’s crazy, but try it.
Selenite is good for angelic communication, and we can all use the power of the angels to help us here on Earth. It is also helps with pain and can realign the spine. I can attest to Selenite helping with a bad back. It’s worth trying if you have ever experienced back pain. Just run a piece along the back, and you should feel the energy of Selenite. Or put two pieces in your back pocket, BUT don’t forget to take them out of your pockets before washing your clothes. Selenite can dissolve in water.
The Master Crystals
Clear Quartz, Amethyst and Citrine are considered Master Crystals. In the Earth, they start as Clear Quartz, and as the Earth heats the crystal it becomes Amethyst and as the crystal heats up even more it turns into Citrine. (By the way, we had a geologist in the store this past weekend and she confirmed this process.) And here’s a fun article from Scientific American about Amethyst.
Let’s break them down with metaphysical properties.
Clear Quartz: Clear Quartz can be “programmed” for you needs. So, for example, if you are seeking a new job, clear your crystal, and then sit and meditate on a new job with your Clear Quartz. Then carry it with you, or put it somewhere where you can touch it every day and think of that new job. Now, once you have that new job, say you want a raise. Clear your crystal again, and then meditate with it. Clear and repeat as your wants change.
In “Love Is In the Earth” Melody describes Quartz as “the connection between the physical dimension and the dimensions of the mind.” … “Quartz can create altered states of consciousness and can serve as a vehicle for both reaching and utilizing the talents and abilities of the mind.”
And my favorite line from Melody: It can further enhance the flow of and can direct, one’s positive thoughts and feelings toward the light, love and harmony of the planet, teaching one to live, laugh and love with all brothers and sisters.
Clear Quartz also amplifies other minerals or crystals it is formed with, such as Tourmalated Quartz, which is Tourmaline in Quartz, so the energy of Tourmaline is that much more powerful.
Amethyst: The purple rendition of Clear Quartz is known as the Master Healer. Yes, it can help with pain and whatever else ails you. It is known as a sobriety stone after the Romans thought it could ward off drunkenness and even made wine glasses of Amethyst. Melody states, Amethyst enhances “the ability to manage any and all responsibilities.” Hmmmm, seems like a connection right there.
Amethyst also can be used to protect against psychic attacks, while it turns that energy into positive, loving vibrations.
Citrine: Ah, the Merchant’s Stone. If you are a shop owner, put a piece of Citrine in your register. Put Citrine in your wallet or purse. Keep a piece with you at all times, as it will help you maintain wealth.
It is one of the few crystals that does not hold onto negative energy, as it transmutes it. However, I do like to cleanse my Citrine every once in a while.
Citrine also helps one maintain a happy disposition, influencing education, business pursuits and emotions by dispelling anger.
The color can range from bright yellow to a burnt umber, depending on the heat and radiation it underwent. Some Citrine is heat processed, and Melody states: The Citrine which has become Citrine due to this heating process, does, in fact, maintain the same properties as natural Citrine.” So don’t be afraid to buy heat-processed Citrine.
