  • What is Smudging?

White Sage Smudge Stick White Sage Smudge Stick

When For Heaven's Sake customers ask, "What is Smudging?" we tell them it's a process used for healing. The smoke is used to bless, cleanse and heal the person or object being smudged. It is used to 'wash off' the outside world when one enters ceremony or other sacred space.

The smudging ceremony is a Native American tradition and is performed by burning specific dried herbs, like Sage, and letting the smoke float around the house. Depending on the size of the house, the entire ceremony should take anywhere from 10-15 minutes. Here are the steps we suggest for smudging your house/space:

    1. Light a candle and say a prayer and/or focus all your engery
    2. With a fire-proof bowl in hand, light your smudge stick with the burning candle and gently move the stick around until it begins to produce smoke
    3. Begin moving in a clockwise direction around your house/space. Wave the smudge stick throughout the room, paying special attention to the corners. Stagnant energy builds in the corners of a room. Use the fireproof bowl to catch any falling embers from the smudge stick.
    4. As you make you way into rooms with cabinets and closets, be sure to smudge in those spaces - including under the sink, the laundry room, even the mirrors in the house need smudging. Gently wave the smoke in all these areas.
    5. When you have made a complete clockwise trip through the house (including your garage), stop where you started and extinguish your smudge stick. Once it has time to cool, you may store it for additional use at a later date. You might use the entire smudge stick during your ceremony! But if not, it may be reused.

When asked how often a space should be smudged, we say only you can know the energy of your space. If it begins to feel heavy within a week or two, smudge again. Some people smudge every few weeks, others every few months - it's really up to you.

Find your smudge sticks in our store - we have a variety of sizes. If you worry about using a lit smudge stick, we do carry Smudge Spray, and it may be used to cleanse your spaces.

  • What is Laser Wand?

Screen Shot 2017-11-13 at 1.56.29 PMThis past Saturday, we had our monthly Let’s Get Stoned gemstone exploration. Our guest presenter was Bob McCumber of Enigma Minerals. He focused the workshop on Angel Wing Amphibole, Giraffe Laser Wand Quartz, and Greenland minerals including Nuummit, Chrysolite and Preselli. Bob is the premier expert on crystal gemstones and rocks, bridging the gap between these two worlds with his no-nonsense approach. His gemstone exploration is based on authentic local identification. One of the most interesting crystals of the evening was the laser wand quartz. We had many questions about this particular crystal.

What is a Laser Wand crystal?

A Laser is a naturally formed long slender crystal that tapers towards its termination. It is a healing crystal that will not only focus Universal Life Force on the primary illness, but will channel some power to unseen secondary problems, curing them before they manifest themselves.

Laser wands are used during meditations to help with communication between one's higher self and for directing and pinpointing energy effectively. The small termination on the end of a laser wand helps to focus its energy extremely well.

There are those that use laser wands for clearing an area of negative or unwanted energy and top create protective barriers against energies or entities that are unwelcome. They are useful in "beaming" healing energy to any recipient including one's self.

To learn more, or hold one in person, stop by the store. One of our experts will help you in learning more and finding the crystal that is right for you and your desires. Our Saturday, December 2, 2017 workshop will bring guest presenter Serendipty. Serendipty was the former manager of Earth-Love Gallery and we are happy to bring her extensive crystal and gemstone knowledge to our customers! We hope you'll join us from 7:00-9:00pm at the store. Blessings~

  • Does a Crystal's Shape have Meaning?

Screen Shot 2017-10-30 at 10.41.26 AM

At For Heaven's Sake, we are obsessed with crystals. To be surrounded by them every day, and to have the opportunity to help customers select their crystals, is a blessing. While helping customers, we are often asked if the shapes of the crystals possess meaning, and we're happy to report that they do, and in this Blog post we will answer that question.

Crystals are normally classified into seven basic crystal shapes:

    1. Rounded crystals are ideal for every purpose as it offers endless flow of energies.

    2. Pointed crystals used mainly for directing energies. You can draw positive healing energies towards you by pointing the crystals inwards towards you. Vice versa, you can shield yourself against pain and negativity by pointing the crystals outwards.

    3. Oval shaped crystals attract love and fertility. It also brings abundance and happiness to families and releases or emits healing powers slowly.

    4. Square or Rectangular cut crystals are used to promote stability and support in workplace or at homes; they absorb harm and negative energies. If you are using them for protection, it is a must to cleanse and recharge them regularly.

    5. Wand-Like crystals offers long-term success and prosperity. It is also commonly used to protect against ill-wishers.

    6. Spherical crystals help to energize and purify any room or work space. It also helps to attract prosperity luck, health and joy in your life.

    7. Pyramidal crystals are natural transmitters of healing and psychic powers which not only helps to calm the soul but also brings harmony in your life.

Understanding a crystal's shape is just the first step. If you are interested in learning more, For Heaven's Sake offers a monthly class, Let's Get Stoned, with different guest speakers every month. The idea of Let’s Get Stoned has nothing to do with marijuana and instead references the natural ‘high’ we get from working with rocks and minerals - sacred gems that hold great potential! These precious gifts of the earth are prime for clearing and balancing ourselves and others and can be used as catalysts for our expansion and growth. A variety of stones easily become a mainstay for seekers and healers because they are easy to learn about and powerful in their application.

If you're interested in learning more about gemstones and their meanings, please join us. We will play in a magical room of stones and we'll soak in awesome energy!
